Camponotus Fedtschenkoi is a visually striking, heat-loving, dry-adapted species that is generally considered easy to keep. They are known for their pale yellow workers and nocturnal habits. The most critical aspects of their care are maintaining high temperatures and providing a distinct dry environment
WHAT YOU WILL GET:-
1 QUEEN & 4 – 10 WORKERS IN TEST TUBE SETUP
🏠 Housing and Nest Setup
This species is well-suited for standard formicariums, but they prefer it dry.
Founding: A standard test tube setup is perfect for a new queen. She is claustral, meaning she raises her first brood without foraging .
Nest Type: Once the colony reaches 10-15 workers, you can move them into a small nest.
Humidity: They are dry-loving. Keep the nest substrate relatively dry. Excessive moisture can be fatal. Provide a small water tube, but avoid damp conditions .
🌡️ Temperature and Diapause
Optimal Range: Keep them warm. The ideal range is 27-29°C
🍽️ Diet and Feeding
They are omnivorous but thrive with a steady supply of sugars and protein.
Sugars: They are very fond of sugars. Offer sugar water, honey, or beetle jelly regularly .
Protein: As nocturnal hunters, they need protein for colony growth. Feed small insects like fruit flies, small crickets, or mealworms 2-3 times per week, adjusting for colony size .
🐜 Colony Development
Growth is moderate to slow, and the colony will show distinct physical changes as it matures.
Founding: The queen raises the first brood alone. This can take 4-6 weeks at optimal temperatures .
Nanitics: The first workers are tiny (3-5mm) and pale .
Growth Milestones: A colony might reach 70-100 workers by the end of the first year. The first large major workers (10-12mm) typically appear once the colony passes 40-50 workers, often in the second year .
Mature Colony: A mature colony can grow to several hundred or even 2,000 workers over a few years .
